KERALA FOLKLORE ACADEMY VISIT

The Kerala Folklore Academy is a support initiative for all the folk artists in Kerala. In a world of trending fashions and growing art forms, this academy upholds its folk music and dance specialty in as pure state as possible. The institution provides financial assistance to folk artists. Economic aid programs and academic councils are conducted to promote the traditional Kerala art forms. The institution aims to promote and preserve the traditional art forms of Kerala. Kerala Folklore Academy was constituted by the Government of Kerala on 28 June 1995 under the Cultural Affairs Department, Government of Kerala, Trivandrum. 

 

VISIT KANNUR LIGHT HOUSE

Kannur Lighthouse is a lighthouse situated near Payyambalam Beach in Kannur town of Kerala. Adjacent to the Sea View Park and the Government Guest House, it is the fourth largest lighthouse in Kerala and one of the popular Kannur Tourist Places. Also known as Cannanore Lighthouse, the lighthouse is still active and overlooks the Arabian Sea. In 1843, the British introduced a system of hoisting a lantern with an oil wick lamp in order to warn ships. A masonry pedestal was constructed in 1903 on the rampart of Kannur fort and placed a double wick oil lamp inside the 4th order dioptric lens and lantern on this pedestal.

 

ST. ANGELOS FORT VISIT KANNUR

St Angelo’s Fort is definitely one of the most popular and frequently visited attractions of Kannur and for more reasons than one. The polished yet prehistoric structure of this fortress with unadulterated elegance and overwhelming power. Standing ashore in the Arabian sea, St Angelo’s Fort enjoys a panoramic and unobstructed view of the diorama created by the merger of the magnetic waves and the azure waters. It also overlooks the mesmerisingMoppila Bay, a natural harbour. Moppila Bay and Dharmadam Island are among the primary attractions here. Moppila Bay is a natural harbour and the fort offers a wonderful view of it along with a sea wall projecting from the fort separating the rough sea and inland water.

 

ARAKKAL MUSEUM VISIT

The Arakkal Museum in Kannur city is one of the most significant and frequently visited attractions of the south that celebrates the memory and grandeur of Kerala only Muslim royal family- the Arakkal Ali Rajas. Previously a majestic palace of the royal family and their actual place of residence, this museum is a true testimony to the impeccable Muslim architecture and design. The Durbar Hall of this palace, which was once the official venue of gathering for the kings and their nobles, has now been converted into the Arakkal Kettu Museum and is managed by the Arakkal Family Trust. VISIT GUNDERT BUNGALOW

Gundert Bungalow, a popular heritage building, and a tourist attraction is located about 20 km from Kannur. The bungalow lies on a beautiful hill named Illikkunnu, near Thalassery town, and a river passes through the area making it an absolute visual treat. This bungalow was the residence of Dr. Herman Gundert who lived here from 1839 carrying out his literary, scholarly, and missionary activities. Gundert was a renowned German missionary and scholar who brought out the very first Malayalam English dictionary. He is also credited with the publication of Rajyasamacharam, the first Malayalam Newspaper, and another publication named Paschimodayam.

 

MUZAPPILANGAD DRIVE IN BEACH

This beach is the longest Drive-In Beach in Asia and is featured among the top 6 best beaches for driving in the world in BBC article for Autos.[3][4] Muzhappilangad is the only Asian beach featured in the list. Even though Goa has many beautiful beaches, it does not have a Drive-in beach. It is considered as the longest drive-in beach in Asia. The beach festival is celebrated in the month of April and it is one of the important tourist attractions in the district of Kannur in Kerala. The youth also try many driving stunts in cars like drifting and wheeling in bikes as this is a paradise for driving along the shore. There is an unpaved road winding through coconut groves leading to the beach. To get to this road, if you are driving from Tellicherry towards Kannur, take the left turn just before the railway over bridge (first railway crossing) you encounter after crossing the Moidu bridge.
