SOOCHIPARA WATERFALLS

The gorgeous Soochipara Waterfalls are situated in Meppadi grama panchayat, Wayanad district Kerala. Also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, inside the thick forest at a distance of 13 km from Meppadi town. Soochipara is derived from the two words ‘soochi’ which means needle and ‘Para’ means rock. And since the ranges here are in the form of needles, this natural wonder is called Soochipara. The mesmerizing views of the Western Ghats and the stream below can be seen from the cliffs at Soochipara water falling from a height of 100 to 300 feet is spectacular. The visitors can swim and bathe in the small lake where the water comes down. The sentinel rock is located at an altitude of over 200 m and it is a popular and favorite destination for adventure climbers. 

The waterfall is three tired one, dropping from a height of about 200 meters. The waterfalls cascade down into the large pool, which is the perfect place for swimming. And this is also an existing trekking destination. The travelers have to trek about 2km to reach the falls from the road point through the slippery rocky path. The trekking is very easy and only takes 30 minutes on the way. Their visitors can see some wildlife animals like deer.

At the time enjoying the beauty of nature, the visitors can explore adventurous rowing and white-water rafting, and swimming. Even small children can swim in the pool and enjoy the blissful scenery around the falls. The sceneries from the balconies here are breathtaking. At the time of visits, you have to walk about 15 km through the forest to reach the location. The roads are all paved. Breathing in the fresh air and traveling through the jungle is a great experience for travelers. The route between Meppadi and Soochipara is lined up with beautiful tea estates with a breath-taking backdrop of Chembra Peak. The drive to Soochipara itself is a wonderful experience.

The waterfall would be mostly dry in the summer season between March to June, at this time the location is usually closed to visitors. And the best time to visit the waterfalls is the rainy season. At this time you can see a considerable volume of water.

The fabulous view gifted by the location is so beautiful. So, it attracts more and more visitors to this spot. The peaceful climate and the mesmerizing sound of the waterfall alone will bring the travelers to paradise. The water flow from the Soochipara falls joined the chaliyar river after flowing across the Vellarimala hills, Tamilnadu. The spot offers a smooth cliff, ideal for rock climbing. That surrounded by the evergreen forest makes the rock enchanting.

This beautiful place offers the best experience to thrill-seekers, nature lovers, and photographers. The trail is filled with varied flora and glimpses of many rare animals such as spotted deer and elephants. Soochipara is blessed with an amazing variety of terrain and offers the best rock-climbing experience. The hills surrounded by the lush green meadows, add more fun to the rock climbing. A spectacular view of landscapes and mountains can be seen from the wood-toped huts provided by the forest Departments. And the tree-topped huts are strategically located to offer a magnificent view of the western ghats.
