EDAKKAL CAVES

We cannot begin to talk about Edakkal caves until about 6000 years ago, following in the footsteps of cavemen. Edakkal cave is a gateway to history. The beautiful Edakkal cave is located in Ambukuthimala Wayanad district of Kerala.   Evidence that man lived here six thousand years ago is not only the beauty of the view. Edakkal cave is not only a sight to behold. The Edakkal cave also points to the entry of humans into the modern age. Monkeys can be seen hanging from coffee trees and small trees as they climb the steep concrete path. There we can also see monkeys snatching what they get from the hands of those who are not careful. The entrance is at the end of a winding concrete road. We can see a ticket counter there. Visitors to Edakkal cave come from many parts of the country including infants and the elderly. Most of the visitors come from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to study the history of Edakkal cave. After the ticket counter, there are stone steps to the top.

The first cave can be reached by climbing the beautiful steps made of granite. The first cave is a little difficult to climb. But with the goal of seeing the remnants of history, that difficulty becomes nothing. So, everyone climbed into the cave even though it is a little difficult. This is a small cave so we can quickly reach the other side of the cave. The next is to climb up the ladder which is leaning against a large rock. After that, we reach a small area between two large rocks. It is an important part of the Edakkal cave. Ladders have been installed in many places due to the steep slope. Because we have to go through this to get to the second cave. This is a viewpoint; we will get a 360-degree view from there.  From there we can see the clouds and mountains very closely. The second cave is a vast area. The light coming through the middle of the rock and the cold atmosphere make nature elusive. The cave is found as a rock on both sides and another rock on top of it. It is a frightening sight. It looks like a rock is falling on your head if you stand here.

The name Edakkal is derived from the fact that rock stands between the two rocks.   It is surprising that humans discovered this cave 6000 years ago and lived here. The drawing and writing in this cave are beautiful. A variety of symbols and letters, including pictures of humans and animals, add to the beauty of Edakkal cave. The history is also important apart from knowing about the Edakkal cave. In 1984, F. Fosset the district superintendent of police brought the historic Edakkal cave to the attention of the world. He comes to Edakkal cave by cutting a path through the forest with the help of MULLUKURUMAR AND PANIYAR belong to the Adivasi community. He studied well about Edakkal cave and introduced the world to the stunning paintings of the Edakkal cave. On the walls of this cave, we can see the information that shows how the way of life of our older generation. But these inscriptions remain evidence that humans lived here 6000 years ago.
